Started to build a human male base mesh to sculpt on at a later date and to help in my learning process of Maya. Last week I started reading through the Autodesk's Getting Started in Maya guide. The only thing that I am struggling with is not using 3ds Max shortcuts in the Maya but that is to be expected. Everything else seems to be a seamless transfer since I am using the same techniques that I learned while learning 3ds Max.

A quick FumeFX explosion done with a particle source in 3ds Max. Unfortunately I had to shut off multiple scatter in the illumination tab due to some weird flickering in the smoke. This was composited and color corrected in After Effects during post. This car was modeled and rendered in 3ds Max. I used reference materials to model the Audi body and reused tires that I had already modeled. The scene was textured with Mental Ray Arch and Design shaders as well as the Nvidia IRay shader. I used the Iray render engine to render this scene and set the render for an hour and a half. Lighting was done with a day light system and setting set to automatic exposure control. Render passes were composited in Photoshop.
Here is a render test of the Audi I made about a month ago. I am once again playing around with Nvidia IRay to get more of a feel for photo realism and push my renders to the next level. I am working on a scene so that the final render of this has much more than a simple studio back drop. I set the render time for about 20 minutes and got a decent result that I am happy with. I used the Mental Ray Arch and Design shaders as well as the IRay shader to texture the car.
